Behind the Song: Happily Ever After

After enough wrong turns, it can be easy to stop believing in happy endings. That’s where Happily Ever After began for me. It’s about reaching the point where love hasn’t exactly gone according to plan, and then meeting someone who makes you wonder if maybe all those disappointments weren’t the end of the story after all. I didn’t want to write a fairy tale. I wanted to write about the kind of happily ever after that feels more meaningful because of everything it took to get there—the mistakes, the heartbreaks, the people who weren’t right, and finally the person who is. Sometimes the happy ending isn’t the one you imagined. It’s the one you almost stopped believing in.
